Below you will find, in my opinion, a list of the best podcasts to improve wellbeing, mental health, and everything else that midlife has to throw at us. There are of course lots more amazing podcasts out there that I am still to discover. However, these are my all-time favourites and the ones that got me hooked.
If you haven’t already read my post ‘Improve Your Wellbeing by Listening to Podcasts’, you’ll find it here.
We are all very different. These podcasts won’t be for everyone. My husband can’t stand my favourite podcast because he finds he can’t relate to the host. Whereas I find his favourite podcast slow and lacking energy. You must do you. But as this is my blog, I get to make the decisions around here (wink, wink).
Here are my top five podcasts to improve wellbeing. Especially if you are new to podcasts, I recommend picking one that resonates with you and giving it a listen.
A range of topics that may be interesting to all of you lovely fellow members of the Forty-Something Club, have been included.
#1: The Mel Robbins Podcast
Here is one of my absolute favourites. Listening to it every week is a must for me and my wellbeing. It’s been recommended by me to so many friends, most of whom have also become Mel Robbins groupies. She is very relatable. I can’t tell you the number of light bulb moments I have had while listening to this series. The Mel Robbins Podcast has introduced me to a range of different experts and authors. I love the down-to-earthness. It focuses on everything and anything to do with wellbeing. It also gives you everything you need to create a better life. I can honestly say that Mel Robbins and her podcast have changed my life. She never fails to motivate me to make the changes I need to work towards the life I deserve.
#2: PS I Love Me
PS I Love Me on Apple Podcasts
This podcast is a bit on-off for me, in the sense that I dip in and out of episodes. However, I will return to it when I feel I need an injection of self-love and acceptance. Which is often.
PS I Love Me is hosted by Gina Swire. As someone who is plagued with self-doubt and has been for most of their life, this topic is right up my street. What self-love is is at the core of it’s focus. As is how to discover and practice self-love. Gina and her special guests explore how to go from a life consumed by self-doubt to being able to love and accept ourselves. Who doesn’t need a little of that?
#3: Feel Better, Live More with Dr Rangan Chatterjee
Podcast Archives – Dr Rangan Chatterjee (drchatterjee.com)
Feel Better, Live More has been around for a while now. It is still going strong with hundreds of episodes to choose from focusing on a myriad of aspects of well-being. Including ‘Why Running Isn’t Bad For Your Knees’ to ‘The Real Cause of Belly Fat’ and ‘How to Spot a Narcissist’. This podcast has it all. It’s the place to be seen (or heard) for any established or upcoming expert. Dr Rangan Chatterjee’s voice is very soothing and easy to listen to. I also have full faith in his expertise and knowledge. His desire and commitment to help all of us ‘Feel Better, Live More’ really shines through.
#4: The Doctor’s Kitchen
Wellbeing, Nutrition & Healthy Eating Podcast — The Doctors Kitchen
The Doctor’s Kitchen is a show about food, medicine, lifestyle and how to improve health. It is hosted by Dr Rupy Aujla, who talks a lot about the constraints of supporting the health of patients as a General Practitioner. His search for new and more effective methods and information to support our health is a special journey to be part of. There is a lot to learn from this podcast, particularly about nutrition and how it impacts our physical and mental health. For me, all the episodes are easy to understand, and the content engaging. There are some awesome special guests too. Furthermore, the way it looks holistically at wellbeing excites me. Lastly, there are loads of practical takeaways and easy ways to make simple life changes to improve wellbeing.
#5: Good Inside with Dr Becky
Parenting Podcast | Good Inside
The Good Inside series is focused on parenting. Dr Becky became visible to me through her appearance on another podcast and I now follow her on social media. Her authenticity and recognition that parenting is super hard, and also her view that none of us always get it right all the time is refreshing. She has taught me so much and helped me to reflect and change how I talk to my children. Her ethos is all about supporting our children to learn how to regulate their emotions. Additionally, for us as parents to recognise the emotions underlying our children’s behaviours. If you are a parent like me who often feels frustrated by your lovely little or not-so-little ones’ reaction to those oh-so-small things, this is the one for you.
The podcast series I have listed above have been the best podcasts to support MY wellbeing in midlife. However, I’m always on the lookout, or should I say listen-out, for new and interesting podcasts.
